United Sleep Medicine performed their first overnight sleep study on the evening of May 2, 1998. Founded by a board certified neurologist and sleep medicine physician, along with a highly experienced registered polysomnographic technologist and coordinator of opening sleep centers, the independent sleep specialty practice started in Charlotte, North Carolina. The drive to help individuals facing the strains of physical and emotional symptoms of sleep disorders stemmed from the founding physician who also suffered from a sleep disorder since childhood.
The following year the practice expanded to two satellite offices in the area. This same year, the company, United Sleep Medicine, L.L.C. was formed to offer our same quality sleep services through contract agreements with hospitals and medical groups. In less than two years from the inception of United Sleep Medicine, the highly acclaimed status of accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine was achieved.
Today the practice, United Sleep Medicine, P.A. has four satellite offices providing sleep consultations, sleep diagnostics, diagnosis of sleep disorders with follow-up appointments, CPAP and BiPAP therapy clinics, and DME services to both adult and pediatric patients. The Infant & Child Division of United Sleep Medicine was founded in late 1999, with a board certified pediatric physician, also boarded in sleep medicine. The pediatric portion of our sleep practice has grown by leaps and bounds over the few years since being developed.
United Sleep Medicine Centers, L.L.C. provides sleep management operations and services to several hospitals and medical groups. Our centers within hospitals range from a 2-bed laboratory to an 8-bed laboratory servicing small to mid-size hospital systems. Other healthcare entities, medical groups, have contracted our sleep healthcare services and state-of-the-art sleep centers.
Additionally, USM has developed a Research Department, encompassing sleep-related clinical trials through major pharmaceutical companies.
The Senior Management Team of United Sleep Medicine works closely with all our departments, staff, and managing sleep professionals to ensure the optimum healthcare of individuals facing the many ailments suffered from having sleep disorders. Our sleep professionals are involved in community outreach within our network of affiliated sleep centers in hospitals and medical groups where we offer educational seminars, medical forums, in-services, sleep awareness speaking engagements, and health fairs to both the public and medical sectors.
