Treatment for sleepwalking, nightmares, and night terrors.
Parasomnias are often seen in children and teenagers, and may be suffered into adulthood as well. This group includes nocturnal activities such as sleepwalking, nightmares, and night terrors. These events are often very frightening for all family members and also keep others in the household from getting adequate sleep.
Evaluating your child’s sleep
When you bring your child to United Sleep Medicine, a physician experienced in pediatric sleep issues will conduct an extensive medical evaluation, which may be followed by spending a night at the United Sleep Medicine Center for testing. The test, called a polysomnogram, is performed throughout the night, in a private room equipped with sophisticated devices for monitoring sleep patterns, including brain waves, breathing, heart activity and body movement.
Your child’s sleep study is noninvasive and painless.
We have designed child-friendly sleep bedrooms with bedrails and cribs for safe infant/toddler sleeping. We have accommodations for a parent or guardian to also spend the night in the testing bedroom.
Once a diagnosis is determined, we can design a specific plan to treat your child’s sleep disorder.
Infant Apnea and Monitoring Program
United Sleep Medicine has a comprehensive Infant Apnea Evaluation and Management Program that offers evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of neonates and infants with suspected or persistent apnea.
A home monitoring service is part of the program. Our pediatric physician evaluates and manages sleep healthcare in infants who have exhibited an ALTE (Apparent Life Threatening Event), apneas, bradycardias or “Blue Spells,” gastro-esophageal conditions or reflux, and pre-term infants with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) risk.
These services are integrated with home health care agencies, pediatricians, primary care physicians, other physician specialists and the families.
